What is a DMZ?
A feature often found in firewall (you can also implentare on firewall software or on a linux box with three network cards) is the so-called DMZ (ie demilitarized zone). What is it?
It 'a zone that physically next to the LAN but that at the IP layer it is totally separate, then the LAN itself is greatly more secure because the only network that is accessible from the outside is to DMZ.
It is used when there are - physically near the public servers. To be implemented a DMZ is no need for at least two public IP addresses, since one will be assigned to the firewall or router (then, the LAN will be released via NAT) while the other will be used only for the server you want to publish.
